A serious tram crash in the southern Polish city of Kraków on Wednesday evening left at least 35 people injured, local media and transport authorities reported.
According to officials, the accident occurred around 6 p.m. local time on Bienczycka Street, when a moving Tram Line 5 struck a stationary Tram Line 52 near a busy traffic roundabout. Two of the wounded — including one of the tram drivers — were seriously hurt and taken to hospital in life-threatening condition.
Emergency services including ambulances and fire crews responded swiftly, providing first aid to many passengers on the spot while others were transferred to nearby hospitals. Several tram lines were immediately diverted as authorities launched an investigation to determine the cause of the collision.
The incident is described as one of the worst recent public transit accidents in the region, raising urgent questions about tram safety and signalling systems in urban Poland.
