The Maharashtra government has expanded its ambitious “Smart & Intelligent Village” scheme by bringing 33 additional villages across multiple districts in the Vidarbha region under the program. The initiative aims to enhance rural development through upgraded digital infrastructure, improved healthcare access, modernized education facilities, and stronger disaster-management systems.
With this expansion, the scheme now covers a larger segment of rural Vidarbha, focusing on bridging the urban-rural gap through technology-driven solutions. Under the program, villages receive facilities such as high-speed internet connectivity, digital service centers, telemedicine support, smart classrooms, and real-time disaster alert systems. These upgrades are expected to significantly improve daily life, especially in remote and underserved areas.
Officials highlighted that the inclusion of more villages will accelerate socio-economic growth by empowering citizens with digital tools and essential services. The scheme emphasizes transparency in governance, digital literacy for all age groups, and access to government services through online platforms.
Local leaders and residents have welcomed the expansion, stating that improved connectivity and better access to healthcare and education will help create new opportunities, especially for youth and women. Disaster-management features—like early warning systems, weather alerts, and emergency communication networks—are also expected to strengthen community resilience in a region known for climate-related challenges.
By adding 33 new villages, the government continues its push toward creating self-sufficient, technology-enabled rural communities, positioning Vidarbha as a model for smart rural development in India.
