Four individuals have been arrested by the Kochi City Police in connection with the assault of a disabled man at a private lodge in Kochi. The incident, which reportedly occurred late at night, has sparked public outrage after details of the attack emerged.

According to police officials, the victim — a man with hearing and speech impairment — was allegedly attacked following an argument inside the lodge premises. Preliminary investigations suggest that a verbal dispute escalated into physical violence, with the accused reportedly assaulting the victim and causing injuries.

Lodge staff alerted authorities after witnessing the altercation. Police personnel rushed to the spot and shifted the injured man to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. Doctors later confirmed that while the victim sustained injuries, his condition is stable and not life-threatening.

CCTV footage from the lodge premises played a crucial role in identifying the accused. Based on visual evidence and witness statements, officers tracked down and arrested four suspects within hours of the complaint being registered. Cases have been filed against them under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, including charges related to assault and causing hurt.

Police officials stated that further investigation is underway to determine the exact sequence of events and whether additional individuals were involved. Authorities are also examining whether the accused were under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident.

The assault has drawn condemnation from disability rights advocates, who have called for strict action against those responsible. Activists emphasised the need for greater sensitivity and stronger safeguards to protect vulnerable individuals.

Law enforcement authorities have assured that the case will be pursued rigorously and that justice will be ensured for the victim. The accused are expected to be produced before a magistrate for further legal proceedings.
