TEHRAN / DUBAI — Iran has signalled a willingness to make concessions on its nuclear programme in stalled negotiations with the United States, but only if Washington agrees to meet core Iranian demands, senior officials told Reuters.

Tehran is seeking recognition of its right to enrich uranium for peaceful purposes and the lifting of crippling U.S. economic sanctions in exchange for adjustments to its nuclear activities, including potentially sending half of its most highly enriched uranium abroad and diluting the remainder.

A senior Iranian official said the overture reflects Tehran’s desire to keep diplomacy alive and avert a possible U.S. military strike, after several rounds of indirect talks yielded limited progress. Analysts noted that the proposals are aimed at finding common ground while preserving Iran’s core strategic interests.

Iran has also floated participation in a regional enrichment consortium and economic incentives such as opportunities for U.S. firms in its oil and gas sectors if a deal is struck.

However, deep divisions remain, especially over how sanctions relief would be implemented and how enrichment activities are monitored. Both sides have scheduled further discussions, with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi expected to meet U.S. negotiators in Geneva as part of continuing efforts to break the impasse.

The diplomatic push comes against the backdrop of heightened tensions in the region and ongoing U.S. military pressure, making the outcome of negotiations uncertain as both capitals weigh their next moves, news as reported.
