The centenary celebrations of Samastha Kerala Jamiyyathul Ulama commenced with grandeur at Kuniya in Kasaragod, marking a historic milestone for one of Kerala’s most influential religious organisations. The multi-day conference, under the theme “Adarsha Vishuddhi Noottandukalilude” (Purity of Ideology Throughout Centuries), was inaugurated by Panakkad Sayyid Sadiqali Shihab Thangal, the state president of IUML, at the ceremonial ground in Varakkal Mullakoya Thangal Nagar. Samastha president Syed Mohammed Jifri Muthukoya Thangal hoisted the main flag, a symbolic start to the centenary event, followed by 99 flags raised by other senior leaders, representing the organisation’s century-long legacy of faith and scholarship.

In his inaugural address, Sadikali Thangal lauded Samastha’s role in guiding the Muslim community through religious knowledge, unity, and social harmony, emphasizing its continued relevance in navigating contemporary challenges. He also underscored the need to uphold traditional values while responding to modern pressures. In his presidential remarks, Jifri Thangal called for resilience against forces perceived as antagonistic to Sunni beliefs and reiterated the importance of a firm ideological foundation for future generations.

The programme lineup is extensive and designed to engage diverse sections of the community. It includes a global expo, religious and general camps, an Ulama summit, Gen Z leadership forums, media seminars, and socio-cultural events. A significant public meeting will be addressed by Dr. Salama Jum’a Dawood, Rector of Al-Azhar University in Egypt, highlighting international support and recognition.

Ahead of the official opening, organisers also formed a 10,001-member reception committee to manage logistics and welcome attendees, reflecting the scale and community involvement in the celebrations.
