The Kerala High Court has directed the district administration to furnish detailed records regarding relocation arrangements and rent payments before proceeding with the demolition of the Army Tower complex in Vyttila. The order comes in response to a petition highlighting concerns over the legality and transparency of the proposed demolition.

The Army Tower, a commercial and residential complex in Vyttila, has been at the center of administrative scrutiny due to disputes over tenancy agreements and clearance for redevelopment. Petitioners contended that several residents and businesses occupying the complex were not given adequate notice or alternative arrangements before demolition was announced.

During the hearing, the court emphasized that any action taken by the district administration must be backed by proper documentation, including records of relocation assistance provided to occupants and verification of pending rent payments. The bench noted that the administration could not proceed with demolition without ensuring that the rights of residents and tenants were protected in accordance with law.

Officials from the district administration informed the court that a comprehensive report detailing the relocation plan, rent dues, and notices issued to occupants would be submitted within a stipulated timeframe. The court has now fixed the next hearing after reviewing the submitted records to decide on the permissibility of the demolition.

The case has drawn significant public attention due to its implications for urban redevelopment and tenant rights in Kochi. Legal experts say the High Court’s directive underscores the importance of administrative accountability and due process before taking action that affects multiple families and businesses.

Residents of the complex expressed cautious relief, noting that the court’s intervention provides time for a fair resolution. Authorities have assured compliance with the court’s directions and indicated that any demolition or redevelopment will proceed only after all procedural requirements are satisfied.
