The Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau has registered a disproportionate assets case against a former state tax officer following an investigation into his financial dealings. The case was registered at the Kochi special vigilance unit after preliminary findings indicated assets allegedly exceeding known sources of income during his service period.

According to officials, the inquiry was initiated following complaints and internal scrutiny that raised questions about property acquisitions and financial investments made by the officer and his family members. The investigation revealed ownership of multiple immovable properties and bank deposits that could not be satisfactorily explained.

Searches conducted at various locations linked to the officer reportedly yielded documents related to land purchases, financial transactions, and luxury assets. Vigilance officials are now in the process of verifying these records and tracing money flows to determine the extent of alleged misconduct.

The officer, who retired recently, is expected to be questioned in the coming weeks. Investigators are also examining whether benami transactions were used to conceal assets. Officials stated that further action would depend on the outcome of detailed financial analysis and witness statements.

The case has renewed focus on accountability within the revenue and tax departments. Anti-corruption activists have welcomed the move, calling it a reminder that public servants remain answerable even after retirement.

Vigilance authorities emphasized that the investigation is at an early stage and that due process will be followed. If charges are proven, the case could lead to prosecution under relevant anti-corruption laws.

The development has sent a strong message across government departments in Ernakulam district, reinforcing the administration’s stated commitment to transparency and clean governance.
