Cambodian authorities have accused Thailand of launching fresh airstrikes on Cambodian territory just hours after a proposed ceasefire announcement, further escalating tensions along the long-disputed border. Phnom Penh’s Ministry of Defence said Thai military aircraft, including F-16 jets, dropped bombs on multiple targets, contradicting a claim by U.S. President Donald Trump that Thailand and Cambodia had agreed to halt hostilities following diplomatic talks.

According to the Cambodian defence ministry, the strikes occurred after Trump’s announcement that both governments had agreed to “cease all shooting” and return to a previously brokered peace framework. Cambodian officials asserted that Thai aircraft “have not stopped bombing yet”, underscoring deep mistrust between the two neighbours.

Bangkok, while acknowledging ongoing military operations, framed its actions as defensive, with Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul saying Thailand would continue “military actions until no harm or threats to our land and people remain.” Both sides have blamed each other for reigniting fighting around key border areas.

The renewed clashes have displaced hundreds of thousands of civilians on both sides and represent one of the most serious escalations in the conflict this year, despite ongoing international diplomatic efforts aimed at achieving a lasting peace. Regional neighbours, including Laos, have called on both nations to exercise restraint and return to dialogue.
