A deep depression forming over the Arabian Sea has intensified into a cyclonic storm, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue warnings for several western coastal states, including Maharashtra, Goa, Karnataka, and parts of Gujarat. According to early forecasts, the cyclone is expected to move northwestward, bringing heavy rainfall, strong winds, and rough sea conditions over the next 48 to 72 hours.
Authorities in coastal districts have already begun emergency preparedness activities. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea, while those already offshore are being urged to return to safety immediately. Ports have hoisted danger signals, and coastal communities are on alert as disaster management teams monitor the storm’s progress. Local administrations are preparing evacuation plans for low-lying and flood-prone areas.
Meteorologists warn that the cyclone could bring wind speeds ranging between 70–90 kmph, with the potential to intensify further depending on sea surface temperatures and atmospheric conditions. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to disrupt transportation, especially in coastal cities such as Mumbai, Mangaluru, and Panaji.
Rescue forces including NDRF and SDRF units have been placed on standby to respond to emergencies. Power outages, waterlogging, and landslides remain key concerns, particularly in regions with vulnerable infrastructure. Citizens are advised to stay updated through official IMD bulletins, avoid travel unless necessary, and follow safety instructions issued by state authorities.
The situation remains dynamic, and the next 24 hours will be critical in determining the cyclone’s exact path and impact.
