Several parts of the country witnessed intense rainfall as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued widespread weather alerts, warning of continued heavy showers over the next few days. The affected states include Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, and parts of the Northeast, all of which are experiencing strong downpours due to active weather systems developing over the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea.

The IMD has issued yellow and orange alerts across multiple districts, urging residents to remain cautious amid the risk of waterlogging, flash floods, and landslides in vulnerable areas. Many low-lying regions in southern states have already reported inundation, prompting authorities to activate emergency response teams. Local administrations have begun relocating families from flood-prone zones and have advised people to avoid unnecessary travel.

Transportation has also been impacted, with delays in train services, disrupted road connectivity, and flight operations facing temporary suspensions in some cities. Schools in heavily affected districts have announced closures, prioritising the safety of students.

According to IMD forecasts, the rainfall intensity is expected to persist, accompanied by thunderstorms, strong winds, and rough sea conditions along coastal belts. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea until further updates.

Officials emphasise that while monsoon-related activity is typical for this time of the year, the current spell is unusually strong, requiring heightened vigilance. The government has assured that disaster-management teams are on standby, and continuous monitoring is underway to mitigate the impact of the heavy rains on public life.
