Heavy rainfall warnings issued under Cyclone Ditwah have put several coastal districts of southern India on alert, prompting authorities to implement extensive precautionary measures. According to early meteorological assessments, the cyclone—currently intensifying over the southwest Bay of Bengal—is expected to move closer to the coasts of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and parts of Karnataka, bringing periods of extremely heavy downpours and strong winds over the next 48 hours.
District administrations have activated control rooms and are closely monitoring water levels in low-lying and flood-prone zones. Disaster management teams, including State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) units, have been deployed to vulnerable regions to assist with early evacuation, rescue operations, and emergency relief if required. Fishermen have been strongly advised not to venture into the sea, as wind speeds are likely to increase significantly, creating dangerous marine conditions.
Several regions have already begun trimming weak trees, checking stormwater drainage systems, and preparing temporary shelters for potential evacuees. Schools and colleges in high-risk districts may be closed depending on the intensity of rainfall over the next day. Public transport departments have also been instructed to stay alert for possible route disruptions due to waterlogging or landslides.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) continues to issue updates and urges the public to avoid unnecessary travel, stay indoors during peak rainfall, and follow district advisories. With Cyclone Ditwah expected to strengthen further, authorities emphasize that preparedness remains the key to minimizing damage and ensuring public safety.
