Andhra Pradesh has officially added three new districts — Markapuram, Madanapalle, and Polavaram — increasing the state’s total district count to 29. The state government announced this administrative expansion as part of its ongoing efforts to improve governance, enhance public service delivery, and promote balanced regional development.

The formation of Markapuram district is expected to benefit several remote and tribal areas in the region, offering better accessibility to government services, health facilities, and educational programs. The district is known for its rich cultural heritage, forest resources, and the historic temples of Prakasam region.

Madanapalle district, located in the Rayalaseema region, has been carved out to strengthen local administration in one of the fastest-growing educational and agricultural hubs of the state. As a popular urban centre known for its educational institutions and horticulture production, the new district status is likely to boost infrastructure development and investment opportunities.

The creation of Polavaram district holds strategic significance as the region includes areas connected to the ambitious Polavaram project. With this upgrade, the government aims to accelerate project-related works, improve rehabilitation processes, and ensure better coordination of water-management initiatives.

Officials stated that the restructuring will bring administrative offices closer to citizens, reduce travel time for essential services, and support long-term regional growth. Residents across the newly formed districts welcomed the decision with optimism, anticipating improved roads, better civic facilities, and stronger local governance.
