Bengaluru, August 3:
Rail services between Mangaluru and Bengaluru have been severely disrupted following a landslip in the Western Ghats between Yedakumari and Shirivagilu. The incident, triggered by continuous heavy rainfall in the region, has affected one of Karnataka’s busiest railway corridors, causing inconvenience to thousands of passengers.
According to South Western Railway (SWR), debris from the landslip obstructed the railway track, prompting authorities to temporarily suspend train movement on the affected section. Railway engineers and disaster response teams have been deployed to clear the debris and inspect the track to ensure safe operations before services resume.
As a precaution, several trains operating between Mangaluru and Bengaluru have been cancelled, while others have been diverted through alternative routes, resulting in delays and changes to travel schedules. Railway officials have advised passengers to verify the latest status of their trains before leaving for the station.
The Western Ghats region has been experiencing persistent monsoon rains over the past few days, increasing the risk of landslides, rockfalls, and flooding. Authorities are closely monitoring weather conditions and vulnerable stretches of the railway line to prevent further disruptions.
South Western Railway has assured passengers that restoration work is progressing on a war footing and that train services will be resumed as soon as the affected track is declared safe. Until then, commuters are requested to cooperate with railway authorities and stay updated through official announcements regarding cancellations, diversions, and revised schedules.
