A Tamil Nadu police inspector attached to the Traffic Enforcement Wing in Ranipet district was arrested on July 28, 2026, following an allegation that he sexually harassed a woman in Velachery, Chennai. The incident reportedly occurred on Sunday night when the 26-year-old woman was walking with her husband on Orandiyamman Koil Street.
According to the complaint, two men on a motorcycle were following the couple, and the pillion rider allegedly groped the woman before attempting to flee. The woman raised an alarm, after which her husband and members of the public chased the motorcycle.
The suspects initially escaped, following which the woman approached the police and filed a complaint. Velachery Police registered a case and launched an investigation, which led to the arrest of the inspector.
The case has attracted attention because the accused is a serving police officer, raising concerns over the conduct of law-enforcement personnel and public safety in Chennai.
