Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will present the prestigious Little Kites Awards on Tuesday, recognizing outstanding student IT clubs and young innovators who have excelled in the state’s flagship Little Kites digital literacy programme. The awards celebrate schools and students for their exceptional achievements in information technology, innovation, robotics, digital content creation, and community-based technology initiatives.
The Little Kites programme, implemented by Kerala Infrastructure and Technology for Education (KITE), has grown into one of India’s largest student ICT networks. It aims to equip school students with practical skills in programming, robotics, animation, artificial intelligence, cyber safety, electronics, multimedia production, mobile app development, and digital communication. The initiative currently operates in more than 2,000 schools, benefiting over 1.75 lakh students across Kerala.
The state-level awards honour schools and student teams that have demonstrated excellence in technology education, innovation, and social responsibility. Winners are selected based on multiple performance indicators, including digital projects, community outreach programmes, technology training, documentation, and creative use of ICT in education. Earlier this year, KITE announced the state-level winners, with schools from Pathanamthitta, Wayanad, and Thiruvananthapuram among the top performers.
Officials said the award ceremony reflects the Kerala Government’s continued commitment to strengthening digital education and preparing students for emerging technologies. The Little Kites programme has earned national and international recognition for encouraging innovation among school students and promoting responsible use of technology. In recent years, students have actively contributed to projects involving cyber safety awareness, robotics, artificial intelligence, software development, digital media production, and public technology training.
KITE has also expanded the programme for the 2026–29 batch, introducing new training camps, robotics modules, and advanced ICT activities to ensure students gain hands-on experience with evolving technologies. Recent circulars issued by the agency outline preliminary camps, mentor training, and additional Little Kites units for schools across the state.
Education officials believe the Little Kites Awards not only recognize academic excellence but also inspire students to use technology for social good. By encouraging creativity, innovation, and digital leadership, the initiative continues to position Kerala as a pioneer in technology-enabled school education and youth digital empowerment.
