A protest organized by the Youth Congress outside the Kerala Public Service Commission (PSC) headquarters in Thiruvananthapuram turned tense after demonstrators attempted to march towards the Commission’s office, demanding immediate action over alleged delays in government recruitment and appointment procedures. Police stopped the march by erecting barricades, leading to a confrontation between protesters and security personnel.
As the crowd attempted to push past the barricades, police used water cannons to disperse the protesters and prevent them from entering the PSC premises. Several Youth Congress workers were briefly detained during the agitation before being removed from the protest site. Visuals from the scene showed demonstrators raising slogans against the state government and accusing the authorities of failing to provide timely employment opportunities to job seekers.
Youth Congress leaders alleged that thousands of PSC rank holders have been waiting for appointments despite vacancies existing in various government departments. They accused the state government of delaying recruitments and demanded that all pending appointments be completed without further delay. The protesters also called for greater transparency in the recruitment process and urged the government to protect the interests of unemployed youth.
Police officials stated that adequate security arrangements had been made around the PSC headquarters to maintain law and order. They said the protesters were prevented from entering the restricted area to avoid disruption of normal functioning at the Commission. Traffic movement in parts of Thiruvananthapuram was temporarily affected as police diverted vehicles away from the protest route.
The protest has once again brought attention to employment-related issues in Kerala, with opposition parties demanding faster recruitment through the Public Service Commission. Youth Congress leaders have warned that further statewide agitations will be organized if the government fails to address the concerns of PSC aspirants and expedite pending appointments.
