Hyderabad, July 4: The Hyderabad Food Administration Safety Teams (H-FAST) have significantly intensified their enforcement efforts against food adulteration, registering 185 cases and seizing nearly 122 tonnes of suspected unsafe food products during extensive inspections conducted over the past 100 days.
The large-scale crackdown targeted restaurants, hotels, food manufacturing units, warehouses, supermarkets, and wholesale markets across Hyderabad. Officials carried out surprise inspections to identify food items that failed to meet quality and safety standards, with a particular focus on adulterated, expired, misbranded, and improperly stored products.
According to the Food Safety Department, the seized items included edible oils, spices, dairy products, packaged foods, sweets, beverages, and other consumable goods suspected of violating food safety regulations. Samples collected during the inspections have been sent to accredited laboratories for detailed analysis. Legal action will be initiated against businesses found guilty of selling unsafe or adulterated food products.
Authorities stated that the special enforcement drive aims to strengthen public health protection by ensuring that food sold in the city complies with the standards prescribed under the Food Safety and Standards Act. Officials emphasized that regular inspections and strict monitoring will continue to deter violations and improve food hygiene across the supply chain.
The department has also urged food business operators to maintain proper hygiene, ensure accurate labeling, and strictly follow storage and manufacturing guidelines. Businesses failing to comply with food safety regulations may face fines, suspension of licenses, or prosecution depending on the severity of the violations.
Consumers have been encouraged to remain vigilant while purchasing food products by checking manufacturing dates, expiry dates, packaging quality, and mandatory certification labels. Citizens have also been advised to report suspected cases of food adulteration or unhygienic food handling to the Food Safety Department through official complaint channels.
Officials said the ongoing enforcement campaign reflects the state’s commitment to protecting consumers and ensuring that only safe, hygienic, and quality food reaches the public. Further inspections and awareness campaigns are expected to continue in the coming months as part of Hyderabad’s broader food safety initiative.
