The Vizhinjam International Seaport has achieved a major milestone by crossing two million TEUs (Twenty-foot Equivalent Units) within just 18 months of operations, making it the fastest Indian port to reach both the one-million and two-million TEU marks.
Since beginning operations, the port has handled more than 950 vessels, including some of the world’s largest container ships. Industry experts say the achievement highlights Kerala’s growing importance in international maritime trade and logistics. The port’s strategic location near major global shipping routes has helped attract increasing cargo traffic from international shipping companies.
