The Kerala government has officially launched “Operation Toofan: The Narco Hunt,” a statewide anti-narcotics campaign aimed at dismantling drug trafficking networks and curbing the growing menace of narcotic substances across the state. The initiative, announced by Kerala Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala, is being described as one of the most comprehensive anti-drug enforcement drives undertaken in recent years.
The campaign focuses on identifying and dismantling drug supply chains, targeting peddlers, suppliers, distributors, and organized criminal networks involved in narcotics trafficking. Authorities have stated that special surveillance and intelligence-based operations will be carried out across Kerala, with particular attention given to protecting school and college students from drug-related activities.
According to the Home Department, Kerala Police will work closely with law enforcement agencies from neighboring states to track interstate drug syndicates and prevent the inflow of synthetic drugs, hybrid cannabis, and other illegal substances into Kerala. Advanced monitoring systems, digital reporting mechanisms, and coordinated enforcement measures are expected to play a major role in the operation.
The campaign coincides with the reopening of schools and educational institutions, reflecting the government’s concern over the increasing influence of narcotics among young people. Awareness programs, community participation initiatives, and anti-drug campaigns will be conducted alongside enforcement activities to create greater public awareness about the dangers of substance abuse.
Officials have also announced stricter action against the sale of tobacco and narcotic substances near educational institutions, as well as enhanced monitoring of hotels, resorts, DJ parties, coastal gatherings, and backwater events where illegal drug use has been reported in the past.
The Kerala government believes that “Operation Toofan” will not only strengthen law enforcement efforts but also help build a community-driven movement against drug abuse. Police officials have appealed to parents, teachers, students, and the general public to cooperate with authorities by reporting suspicious activities and supporting efforts to create a drug-free Kerala.
With intensified enforcement, public awareness campaigns, and inter-state coordination, the government hopes the operation will significantly reduce drug trafficking and protect Kerala’s youth from the growing threat of narcotics.
