The newly elected members of the 16th Kerala Legislative Assembly officially completed the oath-taking ceremony in Thiruvananthapuram, marking the formal beginning of the new legislative term in Kerala. The ceremony was held at the Assembly complex in the presence of senior political leaders, government officials, and invited guests.
Members from both the ruling alliance and opposition benches took the oath as legislators according to constitutional procedures. The session was presided over by the pro-tem Speaker, who administered the oath to the newly elected representatives one by one. Several MLAs took the oath in Malayalam, while some used English and other regional languages.
The ceremony comes shortly after the formation of the new state government led by V. D. Satheesan. Political observers described the event as an important step toward beginning the new administration’s legislative and governance activities.
Tight security arrangements were in place around the Assembly premises due to the presence of senior leaders, newly elected MLAs, media personnel, and party workers. Supporters of various political parties gathered outside the Assembly complex to celebrate the victory of their representatives.
Following the oath-taking process, several newly elected legislators expressed their commitment to addressing public issues including employment, infrastructure development, healthcare, education, and welfare schemes. Senior leaders also called for constructive debates and smooth functioning of the Assembly during the upcoming sessions.
The first Assembly meetings are expected to focus on major administrative matters, including portfolio reviews, budget planning, monsoon preparedness, and implementation of election promises. Discussions on economic development, welfare policies, and infrastructure projects are also likely to dominate the initial sessions of the new Assembly.
Meanwhile, political parties have begun preparations for the upcoming Assembly proceedings, where the new government and opposition are expected to present their priorities and strategies for Kerala’s development over the coming years.
