The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has continued the yellow alert in several districts of Kerala as heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and gusty winds are expected to persist over the coming days. The alert comes as pre-monsoon activity intensifies across the state, bringing relief from recent heatwave conditions while also increasing the risk of weather-related disruptions.

According to officials, districts across central and northern Kerala are likely to experience:

  • Intense evening rainfall
  • Thunderstorms with lightning
  • Strong surface winds
  • Waterlogging in low-lying areas

Authorities have advised residents to remain cautious during periods of heavy rain and avoid unnecessary travel in vulnerable regions. Disaster management teams and local administrations are monitoring river levels, landslide-prone areas, and urban drainage systems closely.

The changing weather has already affected traffic movement in several towns, with localized flooding reported in some areas after continuous rainfall. Fishermen have also been warned against venturing into rough sea conditions along parts of the Kerala coast.

Experts say the rainfall pattern indicates a gradual strengthening of pre-monsoon conditions ahead of the southwest monsoon season. While the rain is expected to reduce daytime temperatures, officials warn that sudden downpours and lightning activity may pose safety risks.

The IMD has urged the public to follow official advisories and stay updated through weather bulletins as conditions may change rapidly over the next few days.
