The Election Commission has ordered a repoll in 15 polling booths across West Bengal following reports of irregularities during the recent phase of voting. The decision comes after complaints from political parties and voters regarding disruptions, alleged malpractice, and procedural violations that may have affected the fairness of the polling process.

According to officials, incidents such as malfunctioning electronic voting machines (EVMs), unauthorized interference, and allegations of voter intimidation were reported in these booths. After reviewing detailed reports from election observers and local authorities, the Commission concluded that a fresh poll was necessary to ensure transparency and uphold democratic principles.

Security has been significantly tightened in the identified locations to prevent any untoward incidents during the repoll. Additional central forces have been deployed, and strict monitoring measures, including live surveillance and micro-observers, have been put in place to guarantee a smooth and fair voting process.

Political parties have responded with mixed reactions. While some welcomed the move as a step toward ensuring electoral integrity, others raised concerns about recurring issues in the polling system. Voters in the affected areas are being encouraged to participate again and exercise their democratic rights without fear.

The repoll is expected to take place under enhanced supervision, with officials emphasizing zero tolerance for violations. The Election Commission reiterated its commitment to conducting free and fair elections, ensuring that every vote counts accurately in shaping the state’s political future news as reported.
