The India Meteorological Department has extended its heat and humidity warning across Kerala as the state continues to experience unusually high temperatures. Several districts are witnessing above-normal daytime temperatures combined with high humidity levels, leading to uncomfortable and potentially risky weather conditions for residents.
According to weather officials, regions such as Palakkad, Thrissur, and Kannur have recorded temperatures nearing or exceeding 38°C, while interior areas are experiencing even higher heat index values due to humidity. The “feels-like” temperature in some parts has crossed 45°C, raising concerns about heat-related illnesses.
The IMD has indicated that the current weather pattern is likely to persist for the next few days, with temperatures expected to remain 2–3°C above the seasonal average. Coastal districts are also facing intense humidity, making conditions more challenging, especially during afternoon hours.
Health authorities have issued advisories urging people to avoid direct exposure to sunlight between 11 AM and 3 PM. Residents are advised to stay hydrated, wear light clothing, and limit outdoor activities during peak heat hours. Special caution has been recommended for vulnerable groups such as children, elderly individuals, and those with existing health conditions.
In addition to the heat warning, the IMD has also forecast the possibility of isolated thunderstorms in certain areas. While these may bring temporary relief, they could also lead to sudden changes in weather, including strong winds and lightning.
