A national online meeting of major lay Catholic organizations in India, convened by the Catholic Laity Forum for Synodality (CLFS), has called for stronger and more effective implementation of synodality across the country. The forum, dedicated to promoting the message of synodality outlined in the Final Document of the Synod on Synodality held in Rome in October 2024, brought together representatives from organizations across all three rites of the Catholic Church in India.
Participants expressed concern over the slow progress and lack of concrete mechanisms initiated by the Church hierarchy in India to implement the synodal process. They stressed the need for greater awareness, proper training of facilitators, and inclusive participation at all levels.
The meeting appreciated the “Ernakulam model” of conducting a Lay Synod and resolved to highlight its importance to relevant Church authorities. It was also decided to send formal communications to the Pope, Apostolic Nuncio, CBCI, CCBI, and bishops across India, urging more proactive engagement.
The organizations offered to provide trained lay facilitators and announced plans to form a national network while actively using media platforms to promote transparency and awareness. News as reported
