Kochi Metro Rail Limited has invited tenders for a major beautification project along the Edappally–Petta metro corridor in Kochi, aiming to transform the stretch into a greener and more visually appealing urban space. The initiative is part of a broader effort to enhance the city’s infrastructure while promoting environmental sustainability.

According to officials, the project will focus on developing landscaped areas beneath and around the metro viaduct. Plans include planting trees, creating vertical gardens, installing decorative lighting, and improving pedestrian-friendly spaces along the corridor. These upgrades are expected to significantly improve the aesthetic appeal of one of Kochi’s busiest transit routes.

The Edappally–Petta stretch is a key section of the metro network, witnessing heavy daily commuter traffic. By introducing green elements and organized public spaces, authorities aim to make the area more comfortable and attractive for commuters and residents alike.

KMRL has emphasized that the project will adopt eco-friendly practices, including the use of sustainable materials and low-maintenance landscaping techniques. The initiative is also expected to contribute to reducing urban heat and improving air quality in the surrounding areas.

In addition to beautification, the project will address issues such as waste management and space utilization under the metro line. Authorities plan to convert unused spaces into functional zones, possibly including seating areas, walkways, and small urban parks.

The tender process marks the beginning of implementation, with interested contractors invited to submit proposals. Once finalized, the project is expected to be carried out in phases to minimize disruption to traffic and metro operations.

Urban planners and residents have welcomed the move, viewing it as a step toward making Kochi a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable city. The initiative reflects a growing trend of integrating infrastructure development with environmental consciousness.

Overall, the beautification of the Edappally–Petta metro stretch is set to redefine urban spaces in Kochi, combining functionality with sustainability.
