In a significant anti-drug operation, Hyderabad police conducted a raid at a popular pub in Kondapur, uncovering drug consumption among several attendees. The raid, carried out by the Elite Action Group for Drug Law Enforcement (EAGLE) along with local police units, targeted a large event attended by around 1,400 people.
During the operation, seven individuals tested positive for drugs, including the son of an IAS officer. The group included software professionals, a student, and a businessman. Authorities conducted on-the-spot urine tests after identifying suspects through prior intelligence inputs.
Those involved admitted to consuming substances such as ganja, benzodiazepines, and methamphetamine. Some claimed they had used these drugs abroad in places like Thailand and the UK. The case has raised concerns about the growing influence of drug culture among urban youth and professionals.
Police have initiated legal proceedings under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985, and are now focusing on tracing the supply network behind the incident. Families of the accused are being informed, and authorities are also considering de-addiction programs.
