Bengaluru is witnessing heightened security arrangements as the city prepares to host matches for the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. Authorities have significantly upgraded safety systems following last year’s tragic stampede incident that claimed 11 lives, prompting a complete overhaul of crowd management strategies.
Police and civic agencies have introduced multiple measures to ensure smooth and safe match-day operations. Around 500 CCTV cameras equipped with AI-based crowd analytics have been installed to monitor real-time movement and detect potential risks. In addition, approximately 28 wide entry gates have been created to ease congestion, and gates will open four hours prior to matches to prevent last-minute crowding.
Public transport is also being optimized for the event. Special metro services will run at a higher frequency, with trains scheduled every three minutes during peak match hours. Authorities have even integrated metro access with match tickets, encouraging fans to use public transport instead of private vehicles.
Security personnel from multiple agencies, including specialized forces, will be deployed in and around the stadium. Mock drills have already been conducted to test emergency response readiness. Officials have also advised that only ticket holders should gather near the venue to avoid unnecessary crowding.
These measures reflect a broader shift toward prioritizing public safety in large-scale events. With Bengaluru hosting several key matches this season, authorities are determined to ensure a safe and well-managed experience for cricket fans.
