The Telangana government has announced a welfare-focused budget for 2026–27, placing strong emphasis on supporting Backward Classes (BCs) and minority communities. The allocation for BC welfare has been increased to ₹12,511 crore, while minority welfare received ₹3,769 crore, reflecting the government’s continued focus on inclusive development.

Overall, more than ₹36,000 crore has been earmarked for SC, ST, BC, and minority welfare programs. This includes ₹11,784 crore for Scheduled Castes and ₹7,937 crore for Scheduled Tribes. The government clarified that even where allocations appear reduced, funds are being redirected through new schemes and categories to ensure better implementation.

Finance Minister Bhatti Vikramarka highlighted that social justice remains a key priority. Several initiatives have been announced, including the construction of residential schools, skill development programs, and 910 community halls for SCs worth ₹368 crore. The government is also planning infrastructure projects such as a BR Ambedkar Knowledge Centre and a hostel named after Babu Jagjivan Ram.

Additionally, tribal welfare is receiving attention through proposals like establishing a tribal university in Mulugu, promoting GIRI products, and setting up Adivasi service centers. The government also aims to fully implement the SC and ST Sub-Plan Act while clearing pending arrears.

This budget reflects a broader strategy to strengthen education, infrastructure, and economic opportunities for marginalized communities. While some critics argue about fund allocation efficiency, the government maintains that the focus is on long-term social upliftment and equitable growth across Telangana, including Hyderabad.
