The Kochi Metro Rail Limited is preparing to introduce additional train services during peak hours to accommodate the growing number of daily commuters across Kochi. The move is aimed at improving passenger convenience and reducing congestion during busy travel periods in the city.
According to metro officials, passenger numbers have been steadily increasing as more people prefer metro services for faster and more reliable transportation. The metro has become a major part of the city’s public transport system, connecting several important areas including Aluva, Edappally, and Tripunithura.
To handle the increasing demand, Kochi Metro is planning to increase the frequency of trains during morning and evening rush hours. By reducing the time gap between trains, authorities expect to ease crowding at stations and provide smoother travel for office workers, students, and other daily passengers.
Officials said that peak travel hours usually occur between 8 AM to 10 AM in the morning and 5 PM to 8 PM in the evening. During these periods, additional services will be introduced to ensure that passengers can travel comfortably without long waiting times.
The metro authority is also monitoring passenger traffic patterns and station usage to adjust service schedules accordingly. Improved train frequency is expected to encourage more people to shift from private vehicles to public transport, helping reduce road congestion and pollution in the city.
Authorities believe that strengthening metro services will support Kochi’s growing urban mobility needs and improve overall connectivity across the metropolitan area.
