A major pipeline leak has disrupted the drinking water supply in several areas of Thiruvananthapuram, causing inconvenience to thousands of residents across the city. Officials from the Kerala Water Authority reported that the leak occurred in one of the main transmission pipelines supplying water to different parts of the capital city.

The damaged pipeline was detected after residents complained about a sudden drop in water pressure and supply interruptions in multiple neighborhoods. Water supply has been affected in areas including the city center and several surrounding residential zones. Authorities immediately began inspection and repair work after identifying the exact location of the leak.

Engineers from the Kerala Water Authority stated that the damaged section of the pipeline requires extensive repair because of its size and the complexity of the underground infrastructure. Repair teams have been working continuously to control the leakage and restore the pipeline system. However, officials indicated that the work may take several days to complete due to the scale of the damage.

During the repair period, the water authority has advised residents to use water carefully and avoid unnecessary consumption. Emergency arrangements are also being considered to provide water through tanker services in areas facing severe shortages.

Local authorities are closely monitoring the situation and coordinating with maintenance teams to ensure that repair work progresses as quickly as possible. Traffic restrictions have also been introduced in certain locations where road excavation is required to access the damaged pipeline.

Officials assured that once the repair work is completed, normal water supply will gradually resume in the affected areas. The Kerala Water Authority has also stated that further inspections will be conducted to prevent similar pipeline failures in the future and to strengthen the city’s water distribution infrastructure.
