The Election Commission of India (ECI) is expected to announce the schedule for the upcoming Kerala Legislative Assembly elections today during a press conference in New Delhi. The announcement will include important details such as polling dates, nomination deadlines, and the counting schedule for the elections.

According to reports, the Election Commission is set to reveal the election timetable for four states—Kerala, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, and Assam—along with the Union Territory of Puducherry. The press conference announcing the poll schedule is expected to take place around 4 PM, officially starting the election process in these regions.

Political parties across Kerala are closely watching the announcement, as the election schedule will determine the timeline for campaigning and candidate nominations. Once the dates are declared, the Model Code of Conduct will come into effect immediately, restricting government announcements and political activities that could influence voters.

The upcoming election will decide representatives for all 140 seats in the Kerala Legislative Assembly. The current assembly term is scheduled to end in May 2026, making it necessary for the election to be conducted before that deadline.

Early indications suggest that polling in Kerala may take place in April 2026, possibly in a single phase, while vote counting is expected to be held in early May 2026 along with the other states going to the polls.

The election is expected to witness a major contest mainly between the Left Democratic Front (LDF) led by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and the United Democratic Front (UDF) led by the Congress, while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its allies will also try to expand their presence in the state.

Political activities, campaign preparations, and alliance discussions have already intensified across Kerala as parties gear up for what is expected to be a closely watched electoral battle.
