Authorities in Chennai have announced temporary traffic diversions in several areas of the city as major road maintenance and infrastructure improvement works begin this week.

According to officials from the Greater Chennai Corporation, the works are part of an ongoing effort to repair damaged roads, upgrade drainage systems, and improve overall transportation infrastructure before the upcoming monsoon season.

The traffic changes will affect several key roads and intersections across the city, particularly in busy commercial and residential zones. Motorists have been advised to follow diversion signs and use alternate routes during the construction period to avoid congestion.

Traffic police teams from the Greater Chennai Traffic Police will be deployed at major junctions to manage vehicle movement and ensure smooth traffic flow. Authorities have also placed additional warning signs and barricades near construction zones to enhance road safety.

Officials said the road works include resurfacing damaged stretches, repairing potholes, upgrading stormwater drains, and strengthening important transport corridors used by thousands of commuters daily.

Residents and commuters have been urged to plan their travel in advance, especially during peak hours, as delays and slow-moving traffic are expected in certain areas until the maintenance work is completed.
