The Indian Institute of Technology Madras has partnered with technology solutions provider SRIT to accelerate the development and adoption of ShaktiDB, an indigenous high-speed enterprise database platform designed to strengthen India’s digital infrastructure.
The collaboration is being led by the IITM Pravartak Technologies Foundation, the institute’s technology innovation hub focused on advanced digital systems. The goal of the partnership is to expand the deployment of ShaktiDB across government institutions, enterprises, and mission-critical sectors that require secure and high-performance data management systems.
ShaktiDB is designed as a sovereign database platform, meaning it is developed within India to reduce reliance on foreign proprietary database technologies. The system prioritizes data security, regulatory compliance, performance reliability, and long-term technological independence for critical digital infrastructure.
Under the agreement, SRIT will provide systems integration and implementation support to help deploy the database platform across large organizations. The collaboration is expected to accelerate adoption in sectors such as government services, financial institutions, and other environments that depend heavily on large-scale databases.
The project is also supported by India’s Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and involves collaboration with the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing. Officials say the initiative aligns with the country’s push for technological self-reliance and sovereign digital infrastructure.
Experts believe that platforms like ShaktiDB could help India build a strong domestic ecosystem for enterprise software and reduce dependence on international database vendors. The initiative reflects a broader national effort to develop indigenous technologies across sectors such as semiconductors, artificial intelligence, and secure digital systems. News as Reported.
