Bengaluru: Restaurants and small eateries across Bengaluru are facing a serious crisis following a sudden shortage of commercial LPG cylinders, raising concerns about possible temporary closures in parts of the city. Industry associations have warned that if the supply disruption continues, several hotels and food establishments may be forced to suspend operations.

According to the Bangalore Hotels Association, the shortage began after a halt in the supply of commercial cooking gas cylinders. The disruption has been linked to global supply constraints and geopolitical tensions in West Asia, which have affected energy distribution chains. Restaurant owners say they rely heavily on LPG for daily cooking and have limited alternatives available at short notice.

Many small and medium-sized eateries in areas such as Indiranagar, Whitefield, and Koramangala reported difficulty securing cylinders from suppliers. Some establishments have already reduced their menu options, while others are considering temporary closures until the supply stabilizes.

Industry representatives said the impact could extend beyond businesses to thousands of people who depend on affordable restaurant meals every day, including students, office workers, and healthcare staff working night shifts.

Officials from oil marketing companies have stated that efforts are underway to restore normal supply. However, restaurant owners remain concerned about rising energy costs and supply reliability.

Food industry groups have appealed to the government to intervene quickly and ensure uninterrupted supply of commercial LPG. They warn that prolonged disruptions could affect employment in the hospitality sector and disrupt daily life in the city.
