Passenger traffic at Cochin International Airport has shown steady growth, reflecting increasing demand for both domestic and international air travel. The airport continues to serve as one of the busiest aviation hubs in South India, connecting Kerala to major destinations across the Middle East, Asia, and other parts of the world.
According to recent airport data, the airport handled over 1.15 crore passengers in 2025, marking a year-on-year growth of about 4.85% compared to the previous year. The increase of more than 5 lakh additional passengers highlights the rising popularity of the airport and the growing demand for air travel from the region.
Airport officials stated that the growth has been balanced across domestic and international routes. A significant share of international passengers travel to and from Gulf countries, as Kerala has a large expatriate population working in the Middle East. Domestic routes connecting Kochi with cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Chennai also continue to see strong passenger numbers.
The airport’s infrastructure improvements and digital initiatives have also helped handle the increasing traffic. Upgraded passenger facilities, improved security systems, and technology-driven services have made travel faster and more convenient for passengers.
Cochin International Airport is notable for being the world’s first fully solar-powered airport, a milestone that has gained international recognition for its environmental sustainability initiatives.
With passenger numbers continuing to rise, airport authorities are planning further improvements and expansion projects to support future travel demand. Officials believe the airport will continue to strengthen Kochi’s role as a major aviation gateway for Kerala and a key connection point for international travelers.
