Traffic congestion continues to trouble commuters near the Amberpet crossroads in Hyderabad as the service road beneath the flyover remains incomplete. The issue has gained attention after Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy requested Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to intervene and resolve the pending land acquisition problems delaying the project.
The Amberpet flyover, located on National Highway-163, was inaugurated on May 5, 2025. The 1.5-kilometre-long four-lane structure was constructed at a cost of about ₹265 crore. The main objective of the project was to reduce heavy traffic congestion at the busy Amberpet junction, which connects several key areas of Hyderabad. However, despite the flyover’s completion and opening, the service road beneath it has not been fully constructed.
According to officials, the delay is mainly due to unresolved land acquisition issues involving nearby properties. Although compensation has already been paid to some affected landowners, several procedural hurdles have prevented the completion of the road. Reports indicate that about ₹2.54 crore has already been disbursed as compensation to certain landowners whose properties were acquired for the project.
Union Minister Kishan Reddy highlighted that the incomplete service road has created inconvenience for daily commuters. Without the service road, vehicles that need to access nearby areas are forced to use alternate routes, often leading to traffic congestion and confusion near the junction.
The issue was first raised in 2018 when plans for the flyover were being finalized. Over the years, the matter has been discussed with multiple government departments, including the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and the state Roads and Buildings Department. Despite repeated discussions, the service road construction has not yet been completed.
Local residents and commuters have also expressed frustration about the situation. Many believe that the flyover alone cannot solve the traffic problem unless the supporting infrastructure, including service roads and proper entry-exit points, is completed.
Kishan Reddy has urged the state government to instruct concerned authorities to resolve the land acquisition dispute quickly and speed up construction work. Officials say that once the service road is completed, traffic movement in the Amberpet area is expected to improve significantly.
