Chennai, March 5: Chennai’s information technology sector is witnessing renewed growth as several major companies announce expansion plans and new hiring initiatives. Industry leaders say the city continues to strengthen its position as one of India’s leading technology hubs.
Major firms including Tata Consultancy Services and Infosys have recently expanded operations in the region, citing strong talent availability and improved infrastructure. Technology parks along the Old Mahabalipuram Road (OMR) and in the Siruseri IT corridor are seeing increasing demand for office space.
According to industry representatives from NASSCOM, Chennai remains a preferred destination for companies focusing on software development, artificial intelligence, and digital services. The city’s large engineering graduate pool and comparatively lower operational costs have helped attract both multinational corporations and emerging startups.
Hiring activity has increased in areas such as cloud computing, cybersecurity, and data analytics. Recruitment agencies report that companies are particularly seeking professionals with experience in machine learning and digital transformation projects.
State government officials say the growth of the IT sector aligns with Tamil Nadu’s broader economic strategy. The administration led by M. K. Stalin has introduced several initiatives aimed at attracting global technology companies to the state. These include new IT parks, startup incubation centers, and policy incentives designed to encourage investment.
Employees in Chennai’s tech industry say the city offers a balanced mix of career opportunities and relatively affordable living compared to other major IT hubs such as Bengaluru and Hyderabad. Many professionals relocating to Chennai also point to the city’s expanding metro network and improved connectivity as factors influencing their decision.
However, experts caution that sustained growth will require continued investment in infrastructure, including public transportation, housing, and urban planning. Rapid expansion in IT corridors has already increased traffic congestion along certain routes.
