Authorities have issued a rain and thunderstorm alert in several districts of Kerala after forecasts from the India Meteorological Department indicated the possibility of scattered rainfall and thunderstorms across parts of the state.
Meteorological officials said that isolated rain or thundershowers are likely in a few places, especially in southern and central districts. Weather forecasts suggest partly cloudy skies with occasional showers in cities like Thiruvananthapuram and nearby regions.
The changing weather conditions are attributed to atmospheric instability and cyclonic circulations over nearby regions, which can trigger brief but intense thunderstorms. Recent observations also show sporadic rainfall in districts such as Pathanamthitta and Thiruvananthapuram despite high temperatures and humidity levels.
Disaster management authorities have advised residents to remain cautious during thunderstorms, particularly due to the risk of lightning, strong winds, and sudden heavy downpours. People are urged to avoid open fields, trees, and water bodies during lightning activity.
Local administrations have also been instructed to stay prepared for possible short-term disruptions such as waterlogging, traffic delays, and power interruptions in areas that experience heavy rainfall.
Weather officials expect the unsettled conditions to continue intermittently over the coming days, though widespread heavy rain is not currently forecast statewide. Authorities will continue to monitor the situation and issue updated advisories if conditions intensify.
