Reports from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia indicate that two suspected Iranian drones struck the U.S. Embassy complex early Tuesday, causing a limited fire and minor structural damage in the heavily fortified diplomatic quarter, officials said. Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Defence confirmed the incident, stating there were no injuries as the compound was largely unoccupied at the time. The attack triggered a “shelter in place” advisory for American citizens in Riyadh, Jeddah and Dhahran while personnel reassessed security protocols.

The drone strikes come amid a broader wave of retaliatory actions linked to ongoing U.S. and Israeli military operations targeting Iran, which have prompted Iranian ballistic missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles to be launched at multiple Gulf cities. In response, the U.S. State Department has ordered non-emergency staff to leave several Middle Eastern posts, including Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, and Iraq, and has warned Americans to avoid certain diplomatic facilities due to “imminent” threats.

Regional governments have condemned attacks on diplomatic missions, and international concerns are rising about further escalation that could draw additional states into the conflict. The situation remains fluid as both defensive and diplomatic efforts seek to mitigate wider confrontation. …news as reported
